Scylla is a VST instrument capable of sample-playback combined with subtractive synthesis to produce a wide variety of sonic possibilities ranging from lush pads to far-out soundscapes and effects via scorching leads and chunky bass. Scylla can be used for most any application and is only limited by the user’s imagination.

Scylla includes three different types of oscillators that can be modified to a wide variety of styles. Three built-in samplers can accommodate .wav audio samples, which can be played back in grain table, waveform, sample or single hit format. All the audio can be modified and modulated through LFO, volume and filter envelopes, Ring-Modulation, and Unison.

Scylla was co-developed with Singing Crane, the same pairing that developed Octav8r

Scylla has a tabbed interface with a different tab for each of the 3 layers and a Global tab for effects and LFOs. Each Layer is identical except each has a different type of oscillator, with a Cross-modulation osc, a Morphing osc and a Spectral osc

demo VST and audio

demo
Download demo VST (10.6 MB) - This zip contains the demo version of Scylla to allow you to fully evaluate it before purchasing. It is fully functioning except you will get 1 second of silence every 10 seconds and a nag screen on start up. The demo version only has 32 presets and 10MB of sample content, where the full version has 128 presets and 96MB of sample content. Manual is also included with the demo version

You can also listen to some audio demos to get a feel of what Scylla can do, although the demo VST will give you a better idea if it's right for you.

Note for users with Multicore processors

Scylla was developed using SynthEdit software version 1.016
There is a known bug with this version of SynthEdit that affects some multicore processors, although it isn't widely documented. Some users with multicore processors and certain hosts have reported issues when trying to load multiple instances of the same SynthEdit plugin. This bug is not reproducable on all systems or hosts, and may not occur on your system. If you have a multicore processor you are strongly urged to fully test the demo version of Scylla on your system before purchasing.
This bug does NOT affect single core processors or single instances of a plugin
This bug only seems to apply in hosts with multi-core support
Whilst SynthEdit 1.1 will fix this bug, there are several other bugs associated with SE 1.1 and it is not considered stable at this time. There is no guarantee that any plugin will be updated on release of SE 1.1, as the compatibility between the two versions is not certain.
If you do have issues with multiple instances, there is a potential workaround. By making several copies of Scylla.dll (eg Scylla_1.dll, Scylla_2.dll, etc) in your VST directory, your host will see each one as a different plugin and be able load one instance of each

Host Compatibility

Scylla has been tested and works in Cubase 4.5.2, Sonar 7.0.2, Ableton Live Lite 7.0.16, FL Studio 8.02, Reaper 3.0, Renoise 2.1, energyXT 2.5.1, energyXT 1.4 and Podium 2.16
You should however always test the demo version in your choice of hosts/system before purchase
