ballistic is a 15 slot drum sample player designed to get you making beats quickly without a million parameters to adjust. All controls are on one screen and the essentials are built in, but with one stereo output per slot, you can add more effects per slot in your hosts mixer. This keeps CPU low and workflow efficient

Simple but effective, it boasts flexible midi triggers, sample audition, sample tuning, 4 choke groups, mute/solo options, sample reverse, sample normalisation, a lofi option and several kits of samples donated by many generous sample providers such as Loopmasters, Zero-G, Digital-Redux, Goldbaby, Soniccouture, Groove Criminals, Real Music Media, Ronnie @ Rekkerd, sink, polyslax and bedroom producers

Even better, all proceeds of sales of ballistic will be donated to Cancer Research UK, helping them in their aim of beating cancer. More details on their work here

ballistic is the little brother to erratic2, which uses the same sample playback engine, but adds many extra features that randomise and humanise the playback, as well as 6 velocity layers per sample and midi out to trigger external synths and samplers. You can find out more here

Installation help

The manual included with the download of ballistic will help to explain the installation in more detail, but in summary;
- you should copy the contents of the download zip into your VST directory, maintaining the folder structure to ensure the presets work
- you can load your own samples from any directory
- ballistic.dll is the multi-out version, ballistic_s.dll is the single-out version
- the default install is the multi-out version, there is a section in the manual on the single-out version
- You may need to configure your host to play all 15 stereo outputs of the multi-out version
For more details please consult the included manual

Note for users with Multicore processors

ballistic was developed using SynthEdit software version 1.017
There is a known bug with this version of SynthEdit that affects some multicore processors, although it isn't widely documented. Some users with multicore processors and certain hosts have reported issues when trying to load multiple instances of the same SynthEdit plugin. This bug is not reproducable on all systems or hosts, and may not occur on your system.
This bug does NOT affect single core processors or single instances of a plugin
This bug only seems to apply in hosts with multi-core support
Whilst SynthEdit 1.1 will fix this bug, there are several other bugs associated with SE 1.1 and it is not considered stable at this time. There is no guarantee that ballistic will be updated to SE 1.1, as the compatibility between the two versions is not certain.
If you do have issues with multiple instances, there is a potential workaround. By making several copies of ballistic.dll (eg ballistic_a.dll, ballistic_b.dll, etc) in your VST directory, your host will see each one as a different plugin and be able load one instance of each

Host Compatibility

ballistic has been tested and works in Cubase 4.5.2, Sonar 7.0.2, Ableton Live Lite 7.0.16, FL Studio 8.02, Reaper 3.04, Renoise 2.1, energyXT 2.5.1, energyXT 1.4 and Podium 2.17
